Page 15. FAQ

What is the advantage of riding a Pedersen ?

The advantage is the comfortable, upright sitting position,
especially for cyclists with back problems. The wrists are
under no pressure, the shoulders are relaxed, the head
stays upright unlike with most other bicycles.

What are the rods for ?

Without the tensioning rods (going from the saddle to the
rear dropouts) the frame would destroy itself under
pressure. They are part of the frame
construction. Do not sit on your Pedersen without the rods !

Why use a hammock saddle ?

When using a normal bicycle saddle which is fixed rigidly on
the seat post, your button is slipping back and forth while
cycling. The Pedersen hammock saddle accommodates
this sideways movement. Result: a lot less friction.

Where to use the Pedersen ?

First of all the Pedersen is a bike for town use. One sits
comfortably, in an upright sitting position with a good
overview over traffic. Of course one can cycle for longer
distances, too.

Could one put a Rohloff hub into the Model-T ?

No you can't. The Rohloff 14-speed hub needs an external
brake. And since there are no cantilever sockets brazed
to the rear frame, no brake can be mounted. We have done
this on purpose ! In our opinion the Model-T is a “Volks-
Pedersen”, and normally 7 or 8 gears are quite sufficient.
At least you can influence the gear ratio, depending on
where you live and cycle.  We have built quite a few
Pedersens with a Rohloff hub, but then all the other
components go up in quality (and in price). We have never
built a Pedersen with a Rohloff hub for under € 3.000.-
